Tusker missed the defender for the better part of the pre-season as he spent weeks in Sweden, where he tried his luck with second-tier sides Vasalund IF and Vasteras SK.

Tusker left-back Levin Joseph Leftie Odhiambo has opened up on his experience when he went for trials in Sweden during the off-season and how it ended up shaping him into a better player.

Odhiambo was arguably the league’s best left-back last season, contributing numerous assists with his dangerous deliveries from both open play and set piece situations, before leaving for Sweden.

Tusker missed the defender for the better part of the pre-season as he spent weeks in Sweden, where he tried his luck at second-tier sides Vasalund IF and Vasteras SK.

However, he opted to return to Ruaraka rather than pen a deal with either of the interested clubs as the second-tier season in Sweden was nearing its end.

“I was happy first of all, going for the trials outside the country,” Odhiambo told the club’s media channel.

“I arrived there and the atmosphere was totally different and I had to cope with it for a few days and I managed to have the right skills there, to have the right coaching from the coaches who were there and it was also about gaining experience from them.

“It was about gaining experience from them for the one month I was there and when I came back, I had the confidence but I had to take a little bit of time as I was not with the team during pre-season.

“I have been with the team for long now and I am catching up with them well.”

Odhiambo revealed that he excelled in the trials but elected to return to Tusker and wait for the January window so as to start a fresh season with the club that he will agree terms with.

He says the experience gave him confidence that he will get a chance to go again, praising the platform Tusker gave him.

“It has shown me that I have the right people guiding me here at Tusker and seeing that people there are wishing the best for me so that I can go there and try out my luck," he added.

“It has been a great feeling for me. It shows me that I can do much better if I continue believing in myself, and I believe many chances are coming if I continue giving the best for my club and being the best every time I am given a chance.”

Odhiambo joined Tusker last March from Mathare United.

He was named the man of the match in the semi-final of the FKF Cup duel against Ulinzi Stars.
