Inter Miami superstar Lionel Messi has finally revealed when he will retire from the beautiful game of football.

World Cup winner and 8-time Ballon d'Or winner Lionel Messi has opened up on his retirement plans in a recent interview.

Messi, 36, defied age and critics by winning the World Cup with Argentina last year and claiming a record-extending 8th Ballon d'Or to put him well clear of greatest rival Cristiano Ronaldo.

Speaking on the Big Time Podcast, Messi expressed his readiness to step away from the game when he feels he can no longer perform at his best or derive enjoyment from playing, regardless of his age.

“I am very self-critical of myself, I know when I’m good, when I’m bad, when I play well and when I play badly.

In their first Concacaf Champions Cup match, Messi and Suarez scored for Inter Miami as they draw 2-2 with Nashville.

When I feel it’s time to take that step, I will take it without thinking about age,” Messi said.

“I know that moment I feel I am no longer ready to perform, that I am no longer enjoying myself or helping my teammates.”

Messi has scored 5 goals and provided 2 assists in 5 games for Inter Miami this season.
