Gerardo Martino criticises Inter Miami players for their lack of desire and spirit in a match against New York Red Bulls, refusing to attribute their defeat to Lionel Messi's absence.

Gerardo Martino, manager of Inter Miami, expressed his disappointment with his team's performance in a recent match against the New York Red Bulls. Despite Lionel Messi's absence due to injury, Martino refused to make excuses and instead criticized his players for their lack of desire and spirit on the field.

Martino's Critique of Inter Miami Players

Following a heavy defeat to the New York Red Bulls, Gerardo Martino did not hold back in criticising his team's lacklustre display. He emphasised that the absence of Lionel Messi should not serve as a justification for their poor performance.

Martino stated, "There is not much to say, except that we were outmatched from start to finish. When a team enters a game without the desire to win, without spirit, without competing, and the other side just wants to win the game, they are going to win it."

"The absence of the best player in the world is important for everyone - but last week with D.C. Leo didn’t play either."

Messi's Absence and Inter Miami's Challenges

Lionel Messi's absence from Inter Miami's recent fixtures has posed significant challenges for the team. The star player's injury during a CONCACAF Champions Cup match against Nashville has sidelined him from both club and international duties.

Despite missing Messi's influence on the pitch, Martino highlighted that the team's collective effort should not be dependent solely on one player. The upcoming matches against New York City FC and Monterrey will further test Inter Miami's ability to regroup and perform without their talisman.
