To outrightly qualify from Group B, Nigeria must avoid defeat against South Africa. But that's not all.

Nigeria's Golden Eaglets go into their 2023 Africa U-17 Africa Cup of Nations Group B game with South Africa on Saturday, with three to four scenarios waiting to play out.

With the group stages in the competition coming to an end, Saturday would define what teams from Group B could bid Algeria goodbye, and what teams could progress to the next stage.

Already, Morocco - having won two of their three group matches, have secured one of the two automatic spots, with second-placed Nigeria, third-placed South Africa and fourth-placed Zambia, all still standing a chance.

To outrightly qualify from Group B, Nigeria must avoid defeat against South Africa. But that's not all.

Golden Eaglets can finish as Group B winners

A win by a 3-goal margin over South Africa, and Morocco losing to Zambia by any margin could see the Golden Eaglets go from second into first place on Saturday.

Should they top the group, Nigeria would square up with hosts Algeria in the quarterfinals.

The obvious: Golden Eaglets can finish as runners-up

A win of any margin over South Africa and a Morocco win over Zambia would see the Golden Eaglets finish in second place. Should Nigeria vs South Africa also end in a draw, the Golden Eaglets and Amajimbos would progress as runner-up and best loser at the expense of Zambia - even if they defeat Morocco.

A second-place finish would see Nigeria meet the runners-up of Group C.

A best loser finish

Should the Golden Eaglets happen to lose to South Africa, they would need help from Morocco to qualify. Peradventure Zambia stuns Morocco, qualification for Nigeria would have to come down to goal difference.

A best-loser finish will see the Golden Eaglets meet Group A winners Senegal.

An elimination on the cards for Golden Eaglets

A convincing Zambia win over Morocco (a 2-goal margin and above) in the other Group B game could also put the loser of Nigeria vs South Africa at risk of elimination from the first round. Should the loser be Nigeria, they would bid the competition goodbye.
