Nigerian goalkeeper Chijioke Aniagboso has faced criticism from his coach after scoring an unusual own goal in the match against Obolon Kyiv.

Just weeks after his first professional clean sheet in a crucial 1-0 victory against LNZ Cherkasy on April 5th, Aniagboso made a significant error.

Having recently broken into the Chornomorets team, the 21-year-old was making only his third league start of the season.

Under little pressure while attempting to clear the ball, Aniagboso misjudged his kick, sending it straight into his own goal and handing all three points to the opposing team.

Chornomorets' goalkeeping coach and former Ukraine international Yevhen Borovyk strongly criticised the error in his post-match analysis.

Borovyk said in an interview with Sport, “Not just this season. That was total bulls**t. Absolute nonsense. It was just a reflex – he saw the ball and lashed at it. Probably something like that.

“I don’t grill goalkeepers after mistakes. That’s already in the past. Why would I poke at a fresh wound?”

Borovyk refuted any suggestions of the club seeking a new first-choice goalkeeper. When questioned about whether head coach Oleksandr Kucher had consulted him regarding a potential change, Borovyk responded definitively with "No."

Despite recently making a mistake, the young goalkeeper is still considered a highly promising prospect for Nigeria.

Following his mistake, Aniagboso was still selected for Chornomorets' starting eleven in their 2-1 defeat to Veres Rivne on April 20th.

However, last weekend saw the young Nigerian goalkeeper on the bench again as Chornomorets lost another league match.
