Mohamed Salah scored for Liverpool before a commanding comeback by City, who netted through Julian Alvarez, Kevin de Bruyne, Ilkay Gundogan, and Jack Grealish.
Meanwhile, Nathan Ake produced a critical block in the 15th minute as Liverpool threatened to score. The City defender blocked Salah’s shot from inside the box before he quickly reacted to get his body in the way of Harvey Elliot’s follow-up.
The Reds went ahead in the 17th minute when Diogo Jota managed to hold Manuel Akanji off inside the City area and laid the ball in the path of Salah. The Egyptian’s first-time finish past Ederson was enough to break the deadlock.
Akanji was at fault as he played Jota onside when everyone was waiting for the offside flag.

City almost conceded the second in the 26th minute, but Grealish’s intervention saved the day for them. Liverpool’s swift counterattack saw Salah run fast to collect the ball, but the City forward kept pace with the Egyptian and cut out his attempted pass.

A minute after they survived a scare of Liverpool's swift counter-attack, Alvarez, who started in the place of injured Erling Haaland, equalized.
City worked well on the build-up, and they found Grealish in enough space on the left wing. The English star produced a low pass that was collected and put into the back of the net by the Argentine.
The reigning champions started the second half with a tangible sense of determination and extended their lead in the 46th minute.
Alvarez whipped a pass to Riyad Mahrez at the right wing, and the Algerian carried the ball forward before giving it to De Bruyne, whose low cross went beyond Alisson Becker.

Liverpool were bamboozled by Man City in the second half at the Etihad Stadium as the Reds fell to another defeat in the EPL on Saturday.
Initially, it looked as if Trent Alexander-Arnold’s extended leg had cut off Alvarez’s shot from finding the corner, but the ball landed on Gundogan’s way. The German scored with a powerful effort to stun the Reds further.
After conceding the third goal, Liverpool looked broken and conceded the fourth in the 74th minute. Gundogan found Grealish with a superb pass, and the former Aston Villa captain found De Bruyne and moved forward fast to receive a cutback from the Belgian to slot home.
The Reds have now lost eight Premier League away games this season, their most in a single season since 2014-15 and as many as they lost on the road in their three previous campaigns combined.
Liverpool have conceded 30 Premier League goals against Man City under Jurgen Klopp, 11 more than they have against any other opponent.
