According to latest reports, Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani made a world-record bid to buy Manchester United from the Glazer family on Friday night.

The potential Manchester United sale that has dragged on for weeks could finally be coming to an end if the recent reports coming out of England are to be believed.

There was a deadline for final bids set at 10pm on Friday night and there was ample interest in just how far the two key bidders, Sheikh Jassim and Sir Jim Ratcliffe were willing to go.

According to 90min, Sheikh Jassim has now made a final bid that surpasses the current clears the current £5bn record to take over a sports team or franchise but is still short of the £6bn the Glazers are believed to be looking for.

The Qatari offers a higher price than Ratcliffe's final offer, but he wants to buy outright, whereas the Englishman wants to bring in other investors and maybe even keep the Glazers on board.

Big picture

In recent days, reports emerged regarding the Glazers' interest in maintaining their interest in the club and possibly not sanctioning a full sale and while Ratcliffe's offer falls well short, his offer is the only one that offers the Glazers that possibility.
