Tore Bobe coach Sammy Okoth is set to probe his goalkeeper over the suspect goal he let in during last Friday’s Premier League clash.

Shabana head coach Sammy Okoth will on Monday conduct an inquest into the performance of goalkeeper Erick Ongiri after he conceded a cheap goal against FC Talanta in the two side’s 1-1 draw on Friday.

The Glamour Boys found themselves trailing in stoppage time when Kevintom Machika netted a late goal for FC Talanta before Justine Omwando equalised two minutes later for a share of the spoils.

However, the manner in which Ongiri conceded the goal left a lot to be desired. A lofted ball forward by Talanta saw the Shabana defender leave it to Ongiri for what was to have been an easy catch but the goalkeeper fumbled and allowed Machika to head home.

It is a goal that left his coach disappointed and he has promised to ensure he gets to the root of the issue.

“The ball was his, the defender left it for him. We are wondering why he left it. We have not met since the match but we will resume on Monday and try to find out why,” said Okoth.

“In the first game, it was a corner against the opponent. We are losing concentration in the last minutes which we need to improve on. If we work on these moments, we can perform better,” he added.

Besides the individual mistakes, Okoth feels his side is getting better despite failing to get maximum points from their opening two games back in the Premier League.

Shabana were beaten by a stoppage time goal against Murang’a Seal before the 1-1 stalemate with Talanta but the former Vihiga United coach is not pressing the panic button just yet.

“They are growing, they did not play badly, the challenge was finishing which we need to work on,” added Okoth.

“Our build-up, speed and possession was good. It is just the second match in the Premier League so I cannot expect them to play like we have been here for 10 years.”

Shabana’s next match will test Okoth’s men to the limit as they face big-spending Kenya Police at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay after the international break.

Police have problems of their own as despite their big outlay, they are yet to win or score, having played to a goalless draw against Kariobangi Sharks before a 3-0 loss to Posta Rangers.
