Serie A club AC Milan are set to break a long-standing tradition that they hold with neighbours Inter

Serie A club AC Milan are set to end the 76-year tradition of sharing a stadium with their cross-town neighbours, Inter. 

Milan set to jettison 76-year old tradition

The two Serie A giants have shared the famous San Siro stadium in Milan since 1947 when Inter joined the Rossoneri in playing home games, but that bit of history is set to end with the red half of Milan set to move to a new stadium without even consulting their cohabitors.

Milan intend to build a new stadium in their La Maura project, which they recently presented to the Mayor of the city without consulting Inter.  

Milan and Inter were supposed to share rights for a new stadium called The Cathedral to replace the San Siro, but the project appears dead no progress was made in the project.

Milan and Inter’s joint Cathedral was supposed to replace the San Siro, with the legendary stadium meant for demolition, but no progress has been made since February on the project.

Milan owner Gerry Cardinale met with city Mayor Sala who confirmed that the Rossoneri would want to proceed with their project without their neighbours. 

Milan and Inter have seen a resurgence in recent years in the Serie A and now in Europe, as the Milanese clubs both made the quarterfinals of the UEFA Champions League for the first time since the 2005/06 season.
