FKFPL Sakari pegs hopes on 'football gods' to win title with Tusker at Gor's expense

The defender says Tusker must win their match against Vihiga Bullets and hope Gor Mahia capitulate against Nairobi City Stars

Kenyan international right-back Daniel Sakari is quietly optimistic that Tusker will retain the 2022/2023 FKF Premier League title despite the situation “not being in their hands anymore”.

The defender has also expressed his disappointment at the side not being able to get all three points against Posta Rangers on Wednesday, which would otherwise have put them back on top of the league with a game to spare.

“We expected maximum points against Posta which realistically is the only thing we could control. We are very disappointed,” the former Kakamega Homeboyz and Kariobangi Sharks right back said.

“The opponents were fighters as well. We just needed to finish our chances but we did not do that which is where we went wrong.

The 24-year-old is however optimistic that “the gods of football” will twist things in their favor should they win their match and Gor Mahia drop points against Nairobi City Stars.

“What we should control is our next game. We must go there and win our match. The other match (between Gor and Nairobi City Stars) is not in our control, so we leave it to the gods of football.”

Tusker are currently second on 66 points, just one behind leaders Gor Mahia. They must win to get 69 points to stand a chance of reclaiming their title assuming Gor Mahia draw or lose to Simba wa Nairobi.

Gor have a far superior goal difference of 28 to the Brewers’ 18. However, K'Ogalo must win their match to clinch the title given they still hold a one-point advantage despite their loss to FKF Cup finalists Kakamega Homeboyz.
