Even after getting only two starts in the league this season, Rennes see Sulemana as a key player they must not sell

Ligue 1 club Rennes have rebuffed Southampton’s efforts to sign their 20-year-old Ghanaian winger Kamaldeen Sulemana.

Rennes desperate to keep Sulemana after injury crisis

According to reports in France, Southampton placed a €17 million bid for the young forward but Rennes are unwilling to sell at the moment, especially as they go through an injury crisis that has depleted their forward line.

Rennes have already lost Martin Terrier for the rest of the season, while Arnaud Kalimuendo is also set for an extended spell on the sidelines.

Sulemana has started only two matches in Ligue 1 this season

These injuries to key forwards have made Rennes extremely reluctant to let Sulemana leave until at least the summer.

They have rejected offers from Southampton, and PSV already, and will likely reject any advances for Sulemana from Everton who are also said to be interested in him after missing out on Arnaut Danjuma.

Sulemana seeking game time at Rennes or elsewhere

Sulemana who joined Rennes from Nordsjaelland in 2021 has struggled to impose himself on the team in the 2022/23 season.

He has started only two matches for Rennes in Ligue 1 and would be open to fresh opportunities for more game time.

The Ghanaian forward may well get those opportunities now that two first team forwards are injured but would surely have preferred a fresh start at a new club.

Rennes would be under no pressure to sell, since Sulemana has a contract with them until 2026, and would be optimistic that they can keep the player with them, especially if they can offer him more playing time until the summer at least.
