Referee not at our level — Jurgen Klopp slams official in Carabao Cup final

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was critical of referee Chris Kavanagh, following the victory over Chelsea.

Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp was heavily critical of the match official for the Carabao Cup final against Chelsea, stating that the officiating did not rise to the level of the game.

Liverpool had a goal controversially ruled out in the second-half of regular time, but it was the Moises Caicedo foul on Ryan Gravenberch, which went unpunished, that angered Klopp.

Caicedo studs caught the young Dutch midfielder’s foot, forcing him to be stretched off, further depleting Liverpool's squad.

Caicedo did not face discipline, and this has led to a post-game rant for the manager of the champions.

What Klopp said

“There were two teams fighting very hard, and the referee didn't have the level of the game,” he said, per the BBC.

“It was not even a foul?! Then the fourth official explaining we cannot give a card... good idea. This situation was obvious for me, everything you need for a card.

"They did an x-ray [on Gravenberch], it is not broken but the ligaments got something. I actually feel really bad, but everything else is really good."

The German tactician extended his to the packed fixture schedule, as he believes it is difficult to compete on all fronts under the current requirements.

"We don't have a team right now for Wednesday. The guys who came on can maybe play again, the rest will get treatment on Monday.”

"I love this country to bits, but the schedule is not made for winning a lot. We will see the price we have to pay, but we fight for everything then we see what comes next.

"Somehow against Southampton, there will be a team in Liverpool shirts.”
