The Croatian midfielder has been sidelined for two weeks with a muscular injury.

Real Madrid’s Luca Modric has sustained a left leg injury and will not take part in their first-leg semi-final clash against Manchester City.

The 37-year-old Croatian midfield maestro is expected to miss two weeks of action, with his fitness also a concern for the club’s Copa del Rey final against Osasuna on Saturday, May 6.

The first leg of the City tie is on the following Tuesday, May 9, with the second leg eight days later on Tuesday, May 16.

Modric has been a key player for Carlo Ancelotti’s side this season, making 44 appearances in all competitions.

The Croatia captain is expected to extend his stay in Madrid for another year, with his current contract due to expire at the end of this season.

Goalkeeper Thibaut Courtois is expected to return for Saturday’s game against Almeria after missing the midweek defeat by Girona with gastroenteritis.

Ferland Mendy and David Alaba, meanwhile, are back on grass as they continue their recoveries from injury.
