Nedum Onuoha, a former Manchester City defender has taken a harsh stance on Manchester United player Casemiro following his performance on Sunday at Old Trafford against Arsenal.

Arsenal secured an important 1-0 victory over Manchester United at Old Trafford thanks to a goal in the first half from Leandro Trossard.

Man United make-shift defender Casemiro was faulted for keeping Kai Havertz on-side leading to the opening goal.

The win takes the Premier League title race between Arsenal and Man City down to the last game of the season.

Onuoha on Casemiro

Many supporters believe that Casemiro should have been held accountable for Arsenal's goal since the Brazilian did not push up, allowing Kai Havertz to score onside.

Casemiro was recently deployed as a makeshift centre-back due to an injury crisis with players like Harry Maguire, Victor Lindelöf, Lisandro Martinez, and Raphaël Varane not available for selection.

Casemiro appeared to be without legs against Arsenal and received criticism for jogging rather than racing when a rival got past him.

Onuoha has emphasised that Casemiro's strengths are being wasted at centre-back, thus he shouldn't be playing there.

Onuoha stated on BBC Radio 5 Live, "We have seen him be a really good defensive midfielder across many years.

"But he couldn't sense the danger there [on the pitch] straight away, from the moment the ball was kicked, other players around him had the sense of urgency, to be able to squeeze the game and close off the field a bit but he doesn’t manage to do that.

"That's not autopilot, I don't think it is engaged at all, in that first 10 to 15 seconds, when other players were sprinting to the ball he was jogging, it's bizarre because he is one of the most decorated midfielders we have seen play in Europe over the last 10 years.

"When he plays at centre back it feels like a waste for him as I can't see his strengths in there."

The loss leaves Man United struggling to qualify for European Football next season as they sit in eighth position on the league table.
