Los Blancos legend Guti Hernandez has offered a sharp warning to Barcelona goalkeeper Marc-Andre ter Stegen amid rumours linking him to a surprising move to Galatasaray.
Guti, who also played in Turkey for Galatasaray’s fierce rivals, Besiktas was keen to offer advice to the German goalkeeper considering a move.
Guti offers Galatasaray advice
Guti, who briefly played for Turkish side Besiktas during the 2010-2011 season, was asked on Spanish television if he’d recommend Ter Stegen make the switch to Galatasaray
The Real Madrid legend’s reply was blunt: “No, because that’s not my team,” advising Ter Stegen to stair clear of any club in Turkey that is not Besiktas.
Guti’s remark quickly caught fire on social media, especially given the tension between Besiktas and Galatasaray fans.
Ter Stegen, 33 and still under contract at Barcelona until 2028, is seen by some as winding down, but Guti’s comment suggests that a Galatasaray move may not be the graceful twilight many imagine.
Osimhen’s Galatasaray success raises expectations
Guti’s comments hit harder when you consider Victor Osimhen’s record-shattering loan spell at Galatasaray.
The Nigerian forward lit up the Super Lig champions with 37 goals, won both the league and the Turkish Cup, and made himself an instant icon in Istanbul.
However, Osimhen had everything to gain by joining Galatasaray on loan, and delivered. For Ter Stegen, it might look more like a downgrade than a revival.
With Osimhen likely returning permanently to link up with new signing Leroy Sane, the spotlight is on Galatasaray, who could use Ter Stegen as the perfect replacement for long-term goalkeeping hero Fernando Muslera, who left the club after 14 years.
