The most recent round of Premier League games was incredibly high scoring, setting a new record.

Matchweek 23 of the Premier League has witnessed an extraordinary goal-scoring frenzy, setting a remarkable record for the number of goals in a single round of 10 Premier League matches.

Phil Foden's memorable hat-trick in Manchester City's 3-1 victory over Brentford marked the 45th goal in this record-breaking Matchweek.

Surpassing Previous Records

The previous record for goals in a round of 10 matches stood at 44, achieved twice before, first in Matchweek 2 of the 2020/21 season and later in Matchweek 34 of the previous season. This historic Matchweek has now seen a staggering total of 45 goals, surpassing all previous benchmarks.

Season-Wide Scoring Spectacle

This season has been nothing short of a goal-scoring spectacle, with a grand total of 730 goals scored in just 228 matches.

The remarkable rate of 3.20 goals per match is setting the 2023/24 season on a trajectory to break the record for the most goals in a single 380-match season, potentially exceeding the previous record of 1,084 goals set last season.

If the current rate persists until May 2024, an estimated 1,216 goals could be scored.

The highest number of goals in any Premier League season occurred during the inaugural 42-match campaign in 1992/93 when a staggering 1,222 goals were scored, averaging 2.6 goals per match.

Record Goals on a Single Day

Saturday's fixtures in this remarkable Matchweek set another record with 26 goals scored in five matches on a single day.

The previous record for a five-match day was 24 goals, established just a month ago on Sunday, December 3.

Brighton & Hove Albion dominated Crystal Palace with a 4-1 victory, and St James' Park witnessed a thrilling eight-goal encounter between Newcastle United and Luton Town, ending in a 4-4 draw.

Aston Villa joined the goal-scoring party, securing a resounding 5-0 victory against Sheffield United.

Sunday continued the goal spree with exciting matches. Nottingham Forest came from behind to draw 1-1 with AFC Bournemouth, Chelsea and Wolverhampton Wanderers engaged in a six-goal thriller, and Manchester United secured a 3-0 victory over West Ham United.

The headline fixture saw Arsenal triumph 3-1 over Liverpool in the 16:30 GMT kick-off, concluding an unforgettable Matchweek 23 in the Premier League.
