The Premier League has announced a mini-tournament to take place in the USA ahead of the 2023/24 season with Chelsea and five other teams set to participate
Premier League has announced plans for a joint tour of the USA by six of its clubs in a pre-season tournament ahead of the 2023/24 season.
Chelsea and Newcastle to headline tour of USA
The tour will be part of the Premier League’s efforts to expand its horizons and marks the first time that the league will host a pre-tournament engagement in the USA.
London clubs Chelsea, Brentford, and Fulham will highlight the mini-tournament and will be joined by the 2022/23 campaign surprise packages Newcastle United, and Brighton.
The Premier League’s tour will visit stadiums in Atlanta (Georgia), Harrison (New Jersey), Orlando (Florida), Philadelphia (Pennsylvania) and Landover (Maryland) with nine games to be played amongst the six teams.
The Premier League released a statement saying, “The tournament will comprise high-profile matches and pre-season training camps, and will be supported by a range of events for fans and local community groups.”
Premier League announce exciting tour of the USA
While Premier League Chief Executive Richard Masters said at the announcement, “We are delighted to be bringing six clubs to the USA in July for the first-ever Premier League Summer Series tournament.”
“Our clubs have incredible supporters in the US, who passionately follow their teams throughout the season.
“We have seen this dedication first-hand from the tens of thousands who have attended our Mornings Live fan events and are excited to be building on this by bringing live Premier League action to five cities this summer.
“We are currently enjoying one of the most competitive Premier League seasons of all time at both ends of the table and I am sure we will see some thrilling matches during the tournament.”
The tour will take kick-off on July 22nd, 2023 with a game between Chelsea and Brighton and end on July 30th with games between Aston Villa and Brentford as well as a London derby between Chelsea and Fulham.
