Posta Rangers' coach John Kamau criticizes Nairobi City Stars' defensive play after a narrow loss, jeopardizing their lead over Gor Mahia.

Posta Rangers head coach John Kamau has publicly criticized Nairobi City Stars' defensive tactics following their 1-0 defeat in a Football Kenya Federation Premier League clashed plated at Kenyatta Stadium in Machakos on Saturday.

This loss, only the second of the season for the Rangers, came as a shock to many, especially given their strong start to the campaign.

The Mailmen had been aiming for their eighth victory to secure their position at the top of the table for another week, but City Stars' strategy and Samuel Kapen's first-half goal changed the game's complexion entirely.

Kamau, clearly disappointed with the result, did not mince words post-match.

"There were two teams on the field: one wanted to play football, but the other wanted to sit back and defend," he remarked.

Kamau emphasized that for the development of top-flight league, teams need to engage actively in the game rather than adopting a 'park the bus' strategy.

Despite the setback, Kamau praised his team's performance, highlighting their effort and commitment to playing an attractive, offensive style of football.

"What we are trying to achieve in transforming our football is to have the boys enjoy the game and not sit back and defend," he added.

The result of this encounter has added a twist to the league's narrative. Rangers, who are now just one point above Gor Mahia, find themselves in a precarious position.

K'Ogalo will be keen observers of Sunday's clash between Gor Mahia and Kariobangi Sharks, hoping for a result that would keep them at the summit.

On the other hand, the victory for City Stars was more than just three points.

It pushed Simba wa Nairobi to eighth on the log with 18 points, providing a much-needed relief from the relegation zone's pressures.

As the 2023-2024 season starts to gather momentum, the pressure is mounting at the top. Rangers, with 25 points from 13 matches, are now in a tight spot as Gor Mahia, a formidable contender, breathes down their neck.
