‘Our priority is Atalanta’ — Club president’s statement leaves Lookman in the dark

Atalanta’s start to the Serie A season has been overshadowed by transfer sagas involving key players, and president Luca Percassi’s latest comments suggest Ademola Lookman’s future may be drifting further into uncertainty.

With the club struggling for clarity, distractions off the pitch continue to weigh heavily on their campaign.

Atalanta had been optimistic about bringing in Yunus Musah from AC Milan, but that hope has been clouded by unforeseen complications.

The American midfielder was preparing to make the switch until Milan suddenly pulled back after Ardon Jashari suffered a serious injury, forcing the Rossoneri to reconsider squad depth.

Percassi admitted to DAZN Italia that he remains “in the dark” about whether the deal will go ahead, stressing that the relationship between both clubs is still strong but insisting the focus must remain on the matches ahead.

For Atalanta, who opened the season with a disappointing 1-1 draw against Pisa, the uncertainty over reinforcements has not helped the dressing room mood.

Perhaps even more pressing is the case of Ademola Lookman. The Nigerian winger openly pushed for a transfer to Inter earlier this summer and even went AWOL from training when talks broke down.

While he was later allowed to explore a move abroad, no suitable bids have arrived, leaving him in limbo. Percassi’s statement that the “priority is Atalanta” offered little comfort, instead signalling that the club is prepared to keep Lookman unless the right offer comes.

With his future unclear and the market closing soon, Lookman’s saga threatens to drag on, leaving both player and club unsettled.
