The Kenya Captain is relishing the role of making the side a constant presence at future challenges.

Harambee Stars captain Michael Olunga wants Harambee Stars establish itself as a team that always qualifies for major tournaments “at the bare minimum” following the side’s return to competitive regular international action after a long time out in the cold.

Kenya will be jetting off to Mauritius for the four nations tournament against the hosts,Djibouti and Pakistan next Monday as Engin Firat continues to prepare the side for their first competitive fixtures scheduled for November this year.

“It is a new squad that has a lot of new faces. It takes time at the national level. It requires a level of patience. It is not a one day project. As the captain I feel we have a lot of quality and potential,” he said.

“ We have played in big matches before. We have played in big competitions, the last one being the AFCON (2019) which comprised all the Kenyan players and fraternity.”

The Al Duhail striker who has been heavily linked with moves abroad recently believes Kenya has the potential to do well in any competitions but has challenged the federation to help with proper preparation if the dream is to become realized.

“I believe we have the potential and what it takes just with good preparation and starting early and now that the stand off between the Government and the FKF is over, it is a new chapter we are looking forward to.

‘We have the ability to qualify for every major competition and that should be the bare minimum now henceforth for Kenya. We will try to give our best as senior players to try and guide the young boys and make it a smoother path and easier way for them.”
