Nondi scored a last-minute winning goal in Harambee Stars’ 2-1 win over Qatar after he was set up by captain Michael Olunga.

Harambee Stars defender cum midfielder Amos Nondi is still lost for words, a fortnight after his winning goal against Qatar in an international friendly match played at the Al Janoub Stadium in the Gulf state.

Nondi scored a last-minute winning goal in Harambee Stars’ 2-1 victory over Qatar after he was set up by captain Michael Olunga, which sent Kenya fans into delirium.

Speaking to FKFTV, Nondi, who can play as a right back, defensive midfielder, and wide right midfielder, has relieved the moment he described as “unbelievable”.

“To be honest, I could not believe that I had scored that goal,"  Nondi said. “It is very hard to find defenders scoring goals if it is not a corner or maybe a defensive midfielder shoots from distance,” he added.

“It has also been a while since I last scored a goal. I felt great. I cannot explain but I felt fantastic.”

“It was not a football team. It was a nation, we were playing abroad and you could see the fans drinking in joy after they turned up in large numbers, but I felt great.”

“Maybe someone had a bad day, but that goal of mine raised his spirits, but I felt great.”

Nondi, who plays for Armenian club Ararat, says that goal against Qatar is revolutionary and could be a stepping stone towards better tidings for Harambee Stars in future assignments.

“Scoring my first goal for Harambee Stars is really a great feeling, not only for me but for my family and the country at large. For sure it is difficult to put this feeling into words but definitely, I am extremely delighted.”

The former Gor Mahia midfielder has been one of Ararat's key players since he joined the side in January as a free agent after leaving Georgian side Dila Gori last December.

He signed a two-year contract, teaming up with compatriot Alwyn Tera, who has been at the club since July 2021.
