FOOTBALL ‘No points to pick here’ - Nzoia Sugar coach fires warning to AFC Leopards

Nzoia Sugar coach Godfrey Oduor has backed his side to collect all three points against AFC Leopards despite their recent struggles which has seen them fail to win four straight games

Nzoia Sugar FC coach Godfrey ‘Solo’ Oduor feels AFC Leopards are the perfect opponent to beat and get their confidence back after losing four games in a row.

AFC Leopards will try for the eighth time this season to win their first match of the campaign when they visit equally struggling Nzoia Sugar on Sunday.

The FKF Premier League clash pits two teams who are under massive pressure to win with Leopards the only team yet to taste a victory in the division while Nzoia last won on the opening match of the season.

Only goal difference separate 17th placed Leopards and bottom of the table Sofapaka with both sides on four points while Nzoia are not far off as they are 16th on five points.

It therefore represents a high-pressure situation for both coaches with Tomas Trucha, the new man in the Leopards hot seat, seeking to win after last week’s baptism of fire when his first match ended in a 1-0 defeat at the hands of Bandari.

Godfrey ‘Solo’ Oduor is also under massive pressure after four straight losses exposed Nzoia’s soft underbelly.

Nzoia started the season with a 1-0 win over Ulinzi Stars before following it up with back-to-back draws.

However, four straight losses have followed with Oduor’s side just scoring in one of them, proving right those who feared that it would be a season of struggle after last season’s third place finishers lost nearly half of the team, including their coach Salim Babu.

While the powers that be at Nzoia might understand the situation they find themselves in, patience will run out if they continue getting beaten and more so if they fail to secure a positive result against a limping Ingwe.

However, the sugar millers have backed themselves to deliver a win against Leopards telling their rivals to expect nothing at the Sudi Stadium.

“There are no points to pick here for AFC Leopards. We are no pushovers because it is this game we are targeting to help us have a turnaround in our results,” Oduor told Nation.

“These are young talented boys and with time they will catch up. It is not that we are playing badly, we have just been unlucky to score goals in matches. A win against Leopards will inject confidence as we face other opponents and climb up the table.”

Similarly, Trucha will feel Nzoia represents the easy opponent to pick apart by his side who need a win to get their confidence back.

Leopards have been colourless this season with their display lacking flair which explains why they have scored just three goals from seven games while letting in eight.

There are no two ways though as they must find a way past Oduor’s men after three straight defeats.

Both teams will back themselves to win the match given in the last six meetings between them, three matches have ended in a draw with Leopards winning twice.

Ingwe claimed four points from this fixture last season, after a barren draw in February before winning 1-0 in May, but Trucha and his boys will hope that the result is reversed this time.
