NNL Roundup: Katsina United qualify for Super 8, Heartland, Sporting Lagos, Kano Pillars win again

Jidechi Chidiezie 23:28 - 14.05.2023

Only the top-ranked teams from the eight groups of NNL will make the cut for teams expected to participate in the Super 8 promotion playoff.

The 2023 season of the Nigeria National League (NNL) entered its eighth round this weekend, with teams edging closer than ever, to securing spots in the Super 8 playoff.

A 3-1 victory over Nigeria Airforce FC on Sunday meant that Katsina United had become the first team in the NNL to secure their place in the promotion playoff.

Katsina United had alongside Heartland, Kano Pillars and MFM FC been relegated from NPFL at the end of the 2022 season. Qualification to the Super 8 playoff could see them make an immediate return after just a year away.

Beyond Group A leaders Mighty Jets, other NNL group leaders Kano Pillars, FC One Rocket, Sporting Lagos, Abeokuta Stormers, and Heartland all won their fixtures to maintain their positions at the top, getting themselves closer to a possible participation in the promotion face-off.
