Netherlands international Quincy Promes has been sentenced to six years in jail for his involvement in smuggling 1,363 kilos of cocaine but may not get to spend a single minute in prison.
Promes is currently residing in Russia, where he plays for Spartak Moscow.
Prosecutors found another individual, also 32 years old, guilty of various charges related to importing, exporting, transporting, and possessing the drugs.

Despite being a former transfer target for Arsenal, Promes declined to return to the Netherlands for the trial, seemingly believing he was beyond the reach of Dutch law in Russia.
With no extradition treaty in place between Russia and the Netherlands, Promes did not attend the trial or provide any statement in response to the charges against him.
The judge criticised Promes for not coming to the court to defend himself or express any remorse.
