Muyoti was set to become Shabana head coach after agreeing terms with the club but changed his mind to stay at high flying City Stars.

Nairobi City Stars coach Nicholas Muyoti has revealed why he turned down the chance to join FC Shabana after several reports indicated he was set to be unveiled as the new head coach.

Shabana announced they had given the job to Sammy Omollo ‘Pamzo’ on Wednesday morning, ending all speculation for the foreseeable future as they hope the former title winning coach will be the man to take them forward.

Muyoti’s Simba wa Nairobi have been flying very high this season and find themselves in second place in the league on 30 points, seven behind leaders Gor Mahia.

The former AFC Leopards and Harambee Stars midfielder has now revealed that his side’s performance is the reason behind why he decided to stay put in the capital after all.

“With the project we have and the attention that has come around I think from the players through the coach, It just shows how we have done so far,” Muyoti told Pulse Sports.

“ Of course when you do well, you attract interest from other clubs but I think also with the project, it is one we believe in and we as a team are working towards perfecting it.

“ So far it has been amazing how these players have come up and what they have done so far shows that it is a project that is in the making.

“We are not there yet but I think it is something you can believe in and want to stay and want to make sure you complete it, that is why I have stayed put.

Last week, Muyoti had said he was willing to take up Shabana’s offer.

“It is true, I have been holding talks with Shabana over the vacant role, and three days ago they tabled to me an offer that I could not resist, I am willing to take the offer because everything in terms of con-tractual matters is done and agreed,” Muyoti said as quoted on People Sports.

“However, my move to Shabana is not done yet because I am still waiting for the release letter from Nairobi City Stars. I have written to them (City Stars) asking they let me move to Shabana but they are dragging the issue, I am ready to join Shabana because the offer on the table is good for me.”

Shabana are placed 17th on the FKF Premier League table with 14 points, one less than bottom-placed Nzoia Sugar.

Their last match was a 1-0 loss to Muhoroni Youth at the Raila Odinga Stadium in Homa Bay on Saturday.
