Chelsea Women’s forward Lauren James has stated that she hopes a solid campaign with England at the 2023 FIFA Women’s World Cup can help her leave her brother Reece’s shadow and make a name for herself.
Lauren James looking to explode with England at the World Cup
Lauren and Reece James are one of football’s most popular sibling pairings and one of the few to have a representative in both the men’s and women’s games.
However, with the men’s game being the more popular of the two, Lauren’s popularity and reputation in football pale compared to her brother's, and she has often been labelled as “Reece James’ sister.”

With 21 year old Lauren set to become the first of the siblings to represent England at the World Cup this summer in Australia, she hopes that the campaign will help her become more than just the sister of a Chelsea star.
Lauren James looking to leave Reece’s shadow
Lauren was called up to England’s team for the 2023 World Cup after missing out on the 2022 Women’s Euros triumph, and in a pre-tournament media event, she made her feelings about being compared to her brother known.
The Chelsea forward noted that she understood why the association was invariably made, saying, "At the moment, men's football has a lot bigger profile, and I'm sure there are times when I've said, 'Oh, that's so and so's sister,' I think it's just natural."
However, she also stated that she would like to become known for being more than just Reece James’ sister, saying that she would like to "carve out [my own name] and be known as 'this is Lauren James'.”
Lauren will be with the England squad as they look to continue their recent success by following up their Women’s Euros win with the country’s first World Cup title.
