After Chelsea made a managerial change, they opted to bring on board the former Everton manager.

Chelsea caretaker manager Frank Lampard has responded to claims that TV star James Corden urged Todd Boehly to appoint him.

The retired England midfielder returned to Stamford Bridge on an interim basis after Graham Potter was sacked.

Reports suggested that Corden – who has become friends with the club’s American co-owner Boehly over the past year - played an influential role in his return.

Boehly, who has a number of media ventures and currently owns the Golden Globes, enjoyed a night out in London with Corden earlier this season and invited him to watch a match in the directors’ box.

"I saw the headline about James Corden. I’m absolutely not aware if it’s true or not. But it’s obviously a great headline to put together, casually, from the outside," said Lampard when asked if Corden played any role in his return to the club.

"So I think when I look at the success of Todd Boehly, the owners of Chelsea football club, I think you have to respect that success and respect the idea that they will probably make decisions based on more than a conversation with one person.

"So that’s as much as I’m going to give your two questions."

While who played a role in having him rehired by Chelsea might not be a big deal, fans will only be worried whether the former Blue can help the club get back to winning ways.

After going down 1-0 to Wolves in his first Premier League match in charge, a big test lies ahead for Lampard: a quarter-final match against Real Madrid on Wednesday.
