Adeyemi tore a muscle against Hertha Berlin and is set to miss at least four games, including the Champions League return leg against Chelsea.

Borussia Dortmund have announced that Karim Adeyemi sustained a muscle injury in the Bundesliga tie against Hertha Berlin over the weekend, and he is expected to be out of action for three weeks.

The German international is one of the brightest talents in Europe, and his lone goal helped Dortmund sink Chelsea in the first-leg of their Champions League tie; however, Dortmund would now have to lineup without him in the second-leg.

Adeyemi's injury

Die Schwarzgelben announced this evening via their official Twitter handle that Adeyemi tore a muscle fibre in the game against Hertha Berlin on Sunday.

The post also revealed that he has been ruled out of action for three weeks, and in that period, Dortmund would travel to Hoffenheim before hosting Leipzig in a crucial tie that could affect the Bundesliga title race. However, Dortmund would miss him the most in the return leg of the Champions League at Stamford Bridge, which happens in 15 days.

The club also wished him well in the post, praying he gets well soon, as are many fans of the Yellow and Blacks.

How Adeyemi got injured

Adeyemi put Dortmund up with a resourceful backheel finish in the game against Hertha, before exhibiting the pace he punished Chelsea with by running down the lefthand channel to set up Donyell Malen for the second.

However, in the course of the sprint, Adeyemi hurt his muscle and was seen clutching his hamstring immediately after delivering the cross that led to the goal.

Medics were called on to the field to treat him, and it was determined that he would be unable to continue, so he was hobbled off the field, forcing Edin Terzic to make a 35th-minute substitution, bringing on Jamie Brynoe-Gittens in place of the German-Nigerian.

Dortmund saw their lead cut in half after the substitution before adding two more goals in the second-half to win 4-1, bringing them level on points with Bayern Munich.
