Jose Mourinho does not believe Arsenal are capable of winning the Premier League title this season

Former Chelsea, Manchester United and Tottenham head coach Jose Mourinho has brutally shut down Arsenal's chances of winning this season's Premier League title.

The Gunners ended the weekend sitting top of the table by a point after they beat Brighton 2-0 and Liverpool were held goalless by Manchester United on Sunday.

Aston Villa moved just a point behind them in third with their win at Brentford, but Manchester City dropped two points in drawing 2-2 with Crystal Palace on Saturday to boost Arsenal.

However, that didn't make any difference to Mourinho, who rated Arsenal's chances of a first title since 2004 at precisely zero.

Asked who was going to lift the trophy this season on John Obi Mikel's 'Obi One' podcast, Mourinho said: “I would say Man City 51 per cent and Liverpool 49 per cent.”

When challenged 'No Arsenal', Mourinho replied 'nah' and pulled a face, leading Mikel to laugh his head off.

After former Chelsea midfielder Mikel claimed Arsenal “always capitulate”, Mourinho did sportingly admit he wouldn't mind seeing Arsenal end their two-decade league title wait next year.

“Honestly, rivalry apart, I would like them to win,” he said.

“Of course, Chelsea and Man United are not going to win it. Out of these three, I would be happy for Arsenal to do it. I would be really happy for them to break that thing.

“It is because when the cumulation of matches starts coming, Man City have two teams.”

Arsenal looked to be on track to win the title last season before faltering over the final few months of the season, allowing City to win the league.

However, there are signs Pep Guardiola's team are struggling to stay the pace this season, having in recent weeks lost to Aston Villa and drawn with Chelsea, Liverpool, Tottenham and Palace.

Mourinho won three Premier League titles over his two spells with Chelsea but was unable to repeat that success with United or Spurs.
