Inter Milan have reportedly initiated talks with a former European midfield star to fill their coaching vacancy.

Inter Milan have reportedly approached Como head coach Cesc Fabregas as a leading candidate to replace Simone Inzaghi, who has unexpectedly parted ways with the club.

Inter’s expected approach follows Inzaghi's departure in the wake of their humiliating Champions League final defeat against Paris Saint-Germain.

Fabrizio Romano reports that Nerazzurri officials are planning an intensive meeting with the former Chelsea and Barcelona midfielder, who impressed with the Lariani last season, guiding the promoted side to a mid-table finish

Fabregas's unique position at Como

Fabregas reportedly holds appreciation for Inter, but his current situation is complicated by his dual role as Como's coach and a part-owner of the club.

The Champions League finalists have also reportedly considered other candidates for the vacant managerial position, including former player Cristian Chivu and ex-Crystal Palace manager Patrick Vieira, as they scramble to secure a new boss.

Meanwhile, Marseille manager Roberto De Zerbi was also rumoured to be a candidate for the role. However, the Italian recently downplayed such speculation, stating that he had received no contact from the Serie A club and was content in his current position in France.

What’s next for Inter Milan?

Managerless Inter aim to have their new head coach in situ in time for the start of the Club World Cup. The Nerazzurri face Monterrey on June 18 before matches against Urawa Reds and River Plate.
