Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has warned Kobbie Mainoo he must continue to improve if he wants more game time at Old Trafford.
Kobbie Mainoo requested a loan move during the final days of the summer transfer window, but Manchester United swiftly denied his request.
Amorim recognizes Mainoo's ability and talent, but believes the midfielder needs more than just talent to thrive in a demanding two-man midfield setup.
"I think for some guys [talent] is enough, but for him it is not enough," Amorim stated.

Manchester United co-owner Sir Jim Ratcliffe has publicly backed under-pressure manager Ruben Amorim, suggesting the Portuguese coach could be given up to two more years to turn the club's fortunes around.
"I believe in him a lot, he is a top top player, but he can be so much better."
Amorim outlined areas for improvement, saying, "I think he needs to have the technical ability that he has, but he needs more pace. He needs to understand the position better. He needs to play at different speeds. Sometimes it’s slower. Sometimes it’s faster, and I think he can improve on that."

Mikel Obi shines as Chelsea lose to Liverpool in legends clash
Super Eagles icons Mikel Obi and Celestine Babayaro both featured for Chelsea in a 1-0 loss at Stamford Bridge to Liverpool in a legends clash.
Discussing Mainoo's role, Amorim added, "Mainoo is really good at controlling the game, but if he plays as an eight, he has to reach the box, returning, and sometimes he has to cover a lot of space with just two."
He noted the competition from Bruno Fernandes, explaining, "Bruno [Fernandes] is doing that job. And then, sometimes, it’s just bad luck. Bruno is maybe the most influential player in the last few years, and he’s been playing in that position.
"Kobbie Mainoo could play as a six, but sometimes he passes the ball and goes away, and it’s not a reference as a six, so we have to balance everything."
