Dennis Oliench has revealed why Harambee Stars fans should cut Michael Olunga some slack whilst giving his honest opinion on Benson Omala.

Harambee Stars legend Dennis Oliech has made his stance known on Michael Olunga’s form in front of goal, revealing his honest opinion on Gor Mahia hotshot Benson Omala after he was left out of the Kenya squad for the second international window in a row.

Fans have made their frustrations known towards Olunga’s recent profligate performances for Kenya particularly in the last three games, which has led to calls for Omala to be given a chance in the first team.

Oliech, who scored 34 goals in 76 caps for Stars between 2002 and 2014, has revealed that, although Olunga is “one of the best” strikers Kenya has, Firat should consider calling up Omala to learn off Olunga, compliment him and eventually succeed him in the long-term when the Al Duhail striker decides to call time on his career.

“The team is okay, maybe for me, I feel like people do not like listening to the truth but we need to call up Omala to the national team,” Oliech said.

“A time will come for Olunga to retire from the national team and we lack a striker right now so I don’t know why the coach has benched him.

“I have seen it alot on Facebook and even seen his father comment on it, and that is because football wise, he is the best striker we have in Kenya, top scorer (almost) two years running, who else can you put into the team.”

Oliech has defended Olunga saying that he has failed to find the back of the net for just three matches, insisting that the former Gor Mahia striker has not lost his form.

“It is not that Olunga has lost his form, maybe against South Sudan, he did not score but at least, we need a second striker. Omala is the best striker we have in Kenya. He should be there so that when Olunga leaves, Omala can carry it on.

“For me, Olunga is one of the best we have, after me, it is him but he will also exit the stage one day. Maybe he has not scored for two or three games, but he has been helping Harambee Stars.

“Right now, he is the player with the most goals for the national team. People cannot say Olunga is bad, but his time is ending quickly and we need Omala here as quickly as possible.”
