The former AFC Leopards goalkeeper was instrumental in helping Zesco reach the quater finals of the Zambian FA Cup witha 4-0 win over Barotse Crocs.

Harambee Stars goalkeeper Ian Otieno showcased his skill and resilience as he played a pivotal role in Zesco United's 4-0 victory over Barotse Crocs, securing their spot in the quarterfinals of the ABSA Cup.

The match, held at the Nkoloma Stadium on Monday, saw Zesco United assert their dominance early on, despite facing the relatively unknown Barotse side.

Head coach George Lwandamina opted to include Otieno and other senior players in the starting lineup, a decision that proved fruitful for the team.

Otieno, who has won 10 caps for Kenya, demonstrated his expertise by keeping a clean sheet throughout the game.

Despite Barotse's youthful energy and electric pace, Otieno and the Zesco defense remained resolute, thwarting any attempts to breach their goal.

The breakthrough came for Zesco in the 29th minute when captain John Ching’andu found the back of the net, giving his team the lead.

Building on this momentum, Zega Mambo doubled their advantage in the 60th minute courtesy of David Simukonda's goal.

Chanda Mukuka further extended Zesco's lead in the 81st minute, putting the game seemingly out of reach for Barotse.

Pascal Phiri then sealed the victory for Zesco with a goal in the dying minutes of the match, securing a convincing 4-0 win.

Otieno's moment of glory came in the 77th minute when he faced his first shot of the game. Displaying his skill and composure, Otieno made a comfortable catch, denying Barotse any hopes of staging a comeback.

Notably absent from the matchday squad was Jesse Were, a seasoned player who has previously lifted the cup twice with Zesco United. Despite his absence, Zesco's commanding performance highlighted their determination to claim their seventh ABSA Cup title.
