Despite Manchester City having more possession of the ball, it was Sevilla who found the opener, thanks to a towering header by Youssef En-Nesyri.

The English champions scored an equaliser in the second half, thanks to a header of their own in the 63rd minute by youngster Cole Palmer.

The game remained 1-1 at full-time and went into penalty shootouts. The Cityzens scored all five of theirs, while Nemanja Gudelj missed the fifth and final penalty for the Spanish team.

Guardiola sets record

With his triumph tonight, Pep became the first manager to win the UEFA Super Cup with three different clubs.

He has previously won the title with Barcelona and Bayern Munich. His Manchester City triumph makes him the first to achieve the feat.

Also, alongside Carlo Ancelotti, Guardiola became the manager with the most UEFA Super Cup titles. The Spaniard and the Italian have both won it four times.
