Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola was furious with Erling Haaland for turning down the opportunity to take a penalty against Leeds.

Manchester City were cruising to a 2-0 win over Leeds when they were awarded a penalty for Pascal Struijk's foul on Phil Foden in the 84th minute.

Haaland decided to let Ilkay Gundogan take it for the chance to score a first career hat-trick after providing City's first two goals.

However, Gundogan missed from the spot and less than a minute later, Leeds went down the other end to score. Guardiola was seen in the aftermath of the penalty miss screaming at Haaland "you should take it."

Guardiola furious after penalty miss

The Manchester City boss said the following in his post-match interview: "I have a feeling when the game is 1-0, 2-0, the main penalty taker has to take the penalty but that is how Haaland is as a person.

"He's top goal scorer and always after goals, goals, and gives it away to his mate who wants a hat-trick and i understand.

"Getting a hat-trick is important and it's nice. Ilkay is a really, really good penalty taker too. And, if he scored the goal everything would be happy but Haaland is the first taker and he should always take it"

City held on for the win despite some nervy moments at the end and are now four points clear of Arsenal at the top of the Premier League.
