After a little more than three months in charge, Jody Morris, a former Chelsea assistant manager, has been fired by Swindon Town.

During his playing career, Morris played for both Chelsea and Leeds. After his retirement, Morris returned to Chelsea as a youth coach, where he was very successful. After that, he worked as Frank Lampard's assistant at Derby before accepting a similar post at Stamford Bridge.

Morris was hired by Swindon at the end of January after Steve Mildenhall was fired but he has failed to impress since his arrival as the team currently sits in tenth place in League Two. The former Chelsea assistant manager only won four games out of 18 games, while he drew four and lost ten.

In the final game he coached before being fired, Swindon grabbed the lead against Crewe but lost 2-1 due to two late goals.

Swindon official statement

An official statement from Swindon states, “Swindon Town can today confirm it has parted company with First-Team Head Coach, Jody Morris, and his assistant Ed Brand.

“Morris, 44, was appointed at the end of January in what was his first senior management role in the game and was later followed to the County Ground by assistant, Ed Brand, in early March.

“We would like to thank both Jody and Ed for their contribution and efforts since joining the football club and wish them all the very best in the future.

“Our aim when they took over was to push on and finish the second half of the season strongly, but as a club, we haven’t achieved our objectives.

Swindon looks to bring success back to the club

After the sacking of their manager Jody Morris, the club have said they are looking ahead to next season as they plan on bringing success back to Swindon.

Still on the statement, “With just one more league game remaining before we reach the conclusion of the season, we feel now is the right time to take a fresh approach as we look to bring success back to this great club for 2023/24.

“Work is well underway to find our next manager, with an announcement in due course.'

The final match of the regular season for Swindon, who failed to qualify for the playoffs, will take place against Crawley Town on Monday.
