FKF Premier League player selected for AFCON, representing a nation with the potential to shine in the 2023 tournament in Ivory Coast.

As 24 African national teams finalize their provisional squads for the upcoming 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) in Ivory Coast, the Football Kenya Federation Premier League (FKFPL) has garnered its own share of attention.

Despite previously being recognized as one of the continent's top leagues, it has recently struggled to attract high-profile players.

While Harambee Stars missed out on the AFCON qualifiers, the FKF Premier League has a small but significant representation in the tournament.

One player, Tusker FC striker Ibrahim Joshua has managed to secure a spot in the provisional squad for Tanzania.

Joshua has overcome injury setbacks during the 2022/23 season and has recently returned to action for the Brewers.

Despite his injury woes, Joshua's talent and potential have not gone unnoticed, earning him a place in the provisional squad for Tanzania.

He had previously been called up for Tanzania's World Cup qualifying fixtures against Niger and Morocco but did not make an appearance in either match.

To date, Joshua has earned three caps for the Taifa Stars. His international journey began in March 2022 when he made his debut as a second-half substitute in a 3-1 friendly victory against Central African Republic.

He subsequently made his first start against Sudan in a friendly match a few days later, and his last involvement as a starter was in September of the same year during a 2-1 friendly loss to Libya.

Tanzania has announced a provisional squad of 53 players for the 2023 AFCON, but the CAF Organizing Committee for the TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations has revealed that the final tournament squads will consist of only 27 players.

This means that Ibrahim Joshua has a chance of making the cut and representing Tanzania on the grand stage of African football.

The Taifa Stars will be making their third appearance in the prestigious 24-nation tournament.

In the group stage, Tanzania will face off against their neighboring nations: Zambia's 'Chipolopolo' and DR Congo's 'The Leopards.'

They will also compete against the formidable Moroccan team, 'The Atlas Lions in Group F.

All the group stage matches will be played at the Laurent Pokou Stadium in San Pedro, with the opening match likely to feature Zambia taking on Tanzania.

Group F is regarded as a competitive group, with each team having a genuine opportunity to advance to the knockout stage.

While The Leopards and Chipolopolos have previously clinched the AFCON title, Tanzania has not progressed far beyond the group stage in their two previous appearances, which took place in 1980 in Nigeria and 2019 in Egypt.

However, with a renewed sense of determination and the inclusion of talents like Ibrahim Joshua, the Taifa Stars aim to make a more significant impact in the 2023 AFCON.

The final tournament is scheduled to take place from January 13 to February 11, 2024, in various Ivorian cities, including Abidjan, Bouake, Korhogo, San Pedro, and Yamoussoukro.
