Adil Rami, a 2018 World Cup winner with France, has caused a storm online after delivering a furious, expletive-filled rant about Spanish teenager Lamine Yamal.
Speaking on his Twitch stream, the former defender praised the Barcelona star’s footballing talent but tore into his personality, lifestyle, and attitude, prompting heavy backlash across social media and sports outlets alike.
Rami praises Yamal’s talent but lashes out at his character
Rami, now 39 and retired from football, didn’t hold back when talking about the rising Spanish star. While acknowledging Yamal’s brilliance on the pitch, he made it clear he had zero respect for him off it.
“Football-wise, nothing to say. He’s a cracking talent. He’ll win Ballons d’Or, Champions Leagues, everything. But on a human level, f*** your mother,” Rami said live on his Twitch channel.
He doubled down on his stance, adding, “I don’t care about Barça fans or Lamine Yamal fans. I’ve had enough.” His comments, transcribed by RMC Sport, quickly went viral due to their graphic nature and harsh tone.
The former Marseille and Sevilla centre-back focused his anger on Yamal’s conduct away from the game, particularly referencing a recent encounter with Cristiano Ronaldo. “The way he shook Cristiano Ronaldo’s hand pissed me off. That’s where it started.
“Then he made videos talking about him, I didn’t like that. That whole business of pulling your shorts down, that comes from prison culture in the US and Mexico, and it was done by people who wanted to get f****. There are things that raise red flags.”
Rami criticises birthday parties and bling
Rami also slammed Yamal’s taste for the spotlight, criticising the young star’s appearance, attitude, and the company he keeps.
“He throws parties, and people are already talking about his parties. Wait a bit, you f****!” Rami said, expressing disgust at what he sees as excessive showboating for someone still so young.
“He shows up, takes the No. 10 shirt, and starts rocking all this bling with big diamonds… He thinks he’s American. It’s f****** annoying.”
The controversy intensified earlier this month when Yamal turned 18 and hosted a birthday party that reportedly featured actors with dwarfism, sparking a fresh wave of criticism in Spain about his public behaviour. In response to the negative attention, the Barcelona prodigy simply said, “I’m just enjoying life.”
Rami’s unfiltered outburst has raised eyebrows, with many questioning the tone and language used toward a teenager still navigating the pressures of fame.
