Former Chelsea and Liverpool defender Glen Johnson advises Osimhen to stay away from Chelsea this winter transfer window.

Retired Chelsea defender Glen Johnson has warned Osimhen not to make a move to Stamford Bridge this January transfer window.

The Super Eagles striker has been hot property since his heroic campaign for Napoli last season, where he led them to their first Scudetto in 33 years.

As Pulse Sports reported, Chelsea are one of the clubs who are keen to prise him away from Naples; however, Johnson, who won two Premier League titles with the Blues, believes a move to West London this winter would be premature.

What Johnson said

The former right-back believes Osimhen desires a move to Chelsea and thinks the striker will thrive at the club; however, he argues the Nigerian should wait till next summer as Chelsea are in transition and it is best when strikers come into settled clubs.

"Regardless of what’s happening at Napoli, I believe Victor would want to join Chelsea anyway,” he said, per the Sun.

"However, Victor will be kicking himself that this move could happen when Chelsea are currently in transition. Of course, they’re a big team and they’re going to bounce back eventually.

"But as long as Victor is willing to wait 18 months or so for that to happen, then I’m sure he’d still want to sign for them in January. It’s tough for strikers to move to struggling sides and start banging in the goals straight away; that’s difficult for anyone to do.

"For example, if Erling Haaland joined Chelsea in January, he wouldn’t score the same amount of goals he’s scoring now. It’s hard to assume that Victor’s going to start banging in goals from day one if the move happens. But I think he will score goals in the Premier League and the league will suit him."

Meanwhile, Chelsea are looking to leverage a former player to assist in the battle for Victor Osimhen’s signature.
