Brentford forward Ivan Toney was recently suspended from football-related activities for eight months after breaking multiple betting rules.

The English international was previously accused of violating the Premier League betting rules. After pleading guilty to several of the allegations, he has been banned from football until January 16.

The FA has revealed the type of betting Ivan Toney played and said he bet against his own team, backing them to lose a game.

FA reveals Toney’s bet

The FA released a statement earlier this month regarding Ivan Toney’s betting breach but did not state the type of betting he played.

However, according to Skysports, it has been revealed that the Brentford top scorer played a bet against his own team, picking them to lose against an opponent.

The 27-year-old has been a shining light for Brentford this season scoring 20 goals, he has however started his eight-month football ban since the game against West Ham.

Toney’s charges and punishment

The England international was accused of breaking 262 FA betting rules, admitting 232 of them, while the remaining 30 charges were dropped.

He was penalised after being found guilty of offences that occurred between February 25, 2017, and January 23, 2021.

According to a statement from the FA, Ivan Toney will be suspended for eight months, starting right away, and will also be fined £50,000.

He can only resume training in September of this year but the suspension will run until January 16, 2024.
