Pulse Sports looks into a Kenyan star who rose through the ranks to play for AFC Leopards before moving to Europe.

Collins Sichenje came into the limelight while turning out for the Green Commandos in the National Super League.

The defensive midfielder, who can also play as a centre-back, signed for AFC Leopards in 2019 and went on to make some commanding appearances.

His outstanding times, though short, at the den saw him earn his maiden call-up to the national team, the Harambee Stars, in 2020.

Collins Sichenje's call ups and transfers

His first national call-up came under Francis Kimanzi, who included him in the team that was preparing to face Comoros in the 2021 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

Baraka Badi is another star that was given a first call-up by Kimanzi at the same time as Sichenje.

However, Sichenje had to wait for his first Harambee Stars start, which came against South Sudan, a friendly game that Kenya won 1-0 in March 2021.

After impressive moments with AFC Leopards, Sichenje was signed by PAOK B and was part of the Greek side between 2020 and 2021, but he did not quite settle and ended up returning to the den.

He did not stay long with Ingwe, as another chance to play in Europe came knocking on his door. This time, it was Swedish top-tier side AIK that was interested in the defender-cum-midfielder.

He signed a four-year deal with the Allsvenskan side.

At AIK, he joined Henry Meja and EricMarceloOuma, but the latter was also loaned out to Norrby IF.

On August 7, 2022, the teenager made his professional league debut, starting in a 1–0 defeat to Kalmar.

Although the AIK move came with so many expectations, he did not quite settle and moved on loan to Kuopion Palloseura, a Finnish club.

Just like Ouma, Sichenje is a product of Kakamega High School, an educational institution in the Western region that has been credited with producing top talents in the country.

Ouma has not only been a mainstay figure at AIK, but he has also played crucial roles for the club, which remains an ever-present competitor in the Swedish top-tier.

Sichenje’s current market value, according to Transfermarkt.com, is €500,000.
