Graham Potter is slowly turning things around at Chelsea, and received more good news as his award-winning star returned to first-team training on Tuesday.

Edouard Mendy was seen at Chelsea's training ground on Tuesday for the first time since breaking his finger earlier in the year.

The African Cup of Nations winner has since undergone surgery to help ease the pain, which has kept him out since December last year.

Injury boost for Potter

Graham Potter has had a tough time since taking over the reins at Chelsea.

However, the English manager has enjoyed some positivity in recent weeks following three consecutive victories, which included a Champions League win over Borussia Dortmund.

Kepa Arrizabalaga has filled in well and taken over as first choice, but an injury to the Spaniard could have put the Blues in a tough position in the absence of Mendy.

With the Senegalese back from injury, Chelsea’s boss will sleep better at night if Kepa picks up an injury.

More positive headache for Chelsea’s boss

Mendy was Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper for a long time, helping the Blues to a Champions League trophy in 2021. However, under Potter, the 31-year-old struggled to hold down his place as he produced mixed performances.

Kepa has put up great performances under Potter, but he has been jittery at times, especially when it comes to dealing with crosses.

Heightened competition has always brought out the best in athletes, according to experts. For this reason, Potter will be happy to have Mendy back for the remainder of the season.
