Injury woes for Chelsea as they are set to lose their club captain to a lenghty spell on the sideline.

Chelsea captain Reece James is set for another lengthy spell on the sidelines after suffering an injury in the Premier League clash against Everton.

What happened

James led out his Chelsea side in the 2-0 loss to the Magpies at Goodison Park but had to be replaced in the 27th minute by Levi Colwill after sustaining an injury.

Chelsea have now released an injury update on his situation: “Captain Reece James has undergone medical assessment following Sunday’s 2-0 defeat at Everton.”

"The defender was withdrawn during the first half at Goodison Park, and scan results have confirmed a hamstring injury. Reece will now begin his rehabilitation programme at Cobham."

According to Fabrizio Romano, the injury will keep James out of action until at least February or March, a three-month estimate.

James injury problems

The 24-year-old has struggled with fitness in his Chelsea career. He was limited to only 14 league starts last season, after starting only 22 the season before.

This season, however, he has only been named five times from the start, as his injury situation has taken a downturn. He suffered an injury in the season opener against Liverpool, which saw him miss nine games. He has had niggles here and there since then but has now been hit with another big one, which will see him miss matches in double figures.
