Xavi Alonso will continue to coach Nigeria's Victor Boniface and his Bayer Leverkusen teammates after saying no to Bayern Munich and Liverpool.

Nigeria’s Victor Boniface and his Bayer Leverkusen teammates are in a buoyant mood after Spanish coach Xabi Alonso decided to extend his stay at the Bay Arena for another season, snubbing interest from European giants Liverpool and Bayern Munich.

As reported by Pulse Sports Nigeria, Alonso confirmed his decision to remain with the Bundesliga leaders, much to the delight of the club's players and staff.

Alonso delights Boniface, Leverkusen

The former Liverpool and Real Madrid star had been heavily linked with a move away from Leverkusen, with both Liverpool and Bayern Munich reportedly keen on securing his services.

However, the 41-year-old has opted to continue his successful tenure at the club, much to the relief of the Leverkusen faithful.

"We're all very happy today," the club posted on their official Facebook account, accompanied by pictures of the players and staff celebrating Alonso's decision.

Alonso has been instrumental in Leverkusen's impressive start to the season, leading the team to the top of the Bundesliga table, where they currently hold a 10-point advantage over defending champions Bayern Munich with just nine matches remaining.

The Spanish maestro's decision to stay has been widely praised, as Leverkusen look to secure their first-ever Bundesliga title.

The club has remained unbeaten in all competitions this season, a run that stretches back 38 matches, with Alonso's tactical acumen and leadership at the heart of their success.
