Red Devils boss Ruben Amorim has spoken about his apprehension ahead of facing Fulham
Manchester United boss Ruben Amorim has admitted that Fulham will be no walk in the park when the two sides clash at Craven Cottage on Sunday, August 24.
His warning underlines how highly the Portuguese coach rates Marco Silva’s side, particularly with Nigerian duo Calvin Bassey and Alex Iwobi playing pivotal roles.
Amorim wary of Fulham’s under Silva
Speaking in his pre-match press conference, Amorim praised Silva’s tactical know-how and the strong identity Fulham have built in recent seasons.
He described Silva as “really experienced and really smart,” noting his ability to adapt and adjust depending on the opponent. According to Amorim, this flexibility, paired with Fulham’s composure and growing confidence, makes them a dangerous outfit to face.
“Every game in this league is tough, but Fulham have that experience and understanding that makes them particularly difficult,” Amorim said.
With Bassey offering solidity at the back and Iwobi providing creativity in midfield, Amorim knows his side cannot afford any slip-ups against a Fulham team that thrives on frustrating bigger opponents.
Silva’s frustrations highlight Fulham’s thin squad
Despite Amorim’s glowing assessment, Silva himself had voiced concerns over his squad depth ahead of the campaign.
The Fulham manager criticised the club’s lack of transfer activity, describing their approach as “too passive.” With only goalkeeper Benjamin Lecomte signed so far, Silva admitted that injuries in pre-season could have been disastrous given how thin his squad looks in key areas.
Still, Silva maintains faith in his core players, including Rodrigo Muniz, while urging the club to act quickly before the September 1 deadline. With Manchester United looming,
Fulham’s mix of Nigerian steel and creativity in Bassey and Iwobi may yet prove the difference, even if reinforcements arrive late.
