Barcelona are reportedly eyeing David de Gea to provide competition for Marc Andre Ter Stegen.

Barcelona is on the hunt for a goalkeeping shake-up and has its eyes set on a major coup: snagging ex-Manchester United shot-stopper David de Gea on a free transfer. With the summer window looming, the La Liga heavyweights are keen on adding the experienced keeper to their ranks after De Gea's surprising nine-month stint without a club.

Barcelona's Goalkeeping Gambit

The Spanish giant's interest in De Gea has stirred the pot, with Mundo Deportivo revealing the club's intentions to make a "strategic" addition between the sticks. Currently led by Marc-Andre ter Stegen, Barcelona's goal is crystal clear: bolster their squad depth.

But the question buzzing around Camp Nou is whether De Gea, eager for a Spanish homecoming, is up for playing second fiddle to Ter Stegen. Meanwhile, La Masia product Inaki Pena, who stepped in for an injured Ter Stegen this season, might look elsewhere for more consistent playing time, further intensifying Barcelona's goalkeeping conundrum.

The De Gea Dilemma

With an illustrious career at Manchester United now in his rearview, De Gea's next move is shrouded in mystery. The keeper's silence on his future only adds to the intrigue, as links to Nottingham Forest and Al-Shabab have yet to materialise into anything concrete.

However, the allure of Barcelona may be strong, but the role of a backup could be a dealbreaker for the Spaniard.
