Chelsea striker Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang has been a shadow of himself since he joined the Blues and has been frozen out of the team.

Aubameyang, who joined Chelsea from Barcelona in the 2022 summer transfer window has had a tough time getting into the Chelsea team. He has only played 13 games and scored just one goal in all competitions this season.

However, recent reports have suggested that Barcelona are set to go in for their former striker who left Camp Nou for Chelsea and make him their number-one target in the summer.

Aubameyang career

During the January 2018 transfer window, Arsenal signed Aubameyang from Borussia Dortmund for a fee of £55.3 million making him the second most expensive signing for the Gunners.

The 33-year-old made 128 Premier League appearances and scored 68 goals with 16 assists in his four-and-a-half years at Arsenal. Towards the end of his playing days at Arsenal, Aubameyang had a fallout with the newly appointed Mikel Arteta which led to his move to Barcelona.

The Gabonese striker left on a free transfer in January 2022 where he made 18 appearances and scored 11 goals for Barcelona. After the 2021-2022 season, he moved to Chelsea for a fee of €12 million where he has had his playing time limited.

Barcelona sees Aubameyang as a back-up plan

Barcelona are in search of a new striker in the summer having had only Robert Lewandowski as their only striker in the team.

Football Daily reported earlier today that Barcelona has made Aubameyang their main target in the summer as they hope to bring him back to Camp Nou.

Aubameyang is one of the best strikers in the world and has played for bigger teams in Europe. With Aubameyang getting little playing time at Chelsea, this news will come as good news for him with Xavi seeing him as a backup plan for Lewandowski next season.

Liverpool’s Roberto Firmino is another player Xavi is interested in, as they look for other options in case they are unable to get their number one target in the summer.
