The youngster had been linked with Manchester United before.

Arsenal have reportedly opened talks to sign defender Jeremie Frimpong from Bayer Leverkusen this summer.

The Gunners have initiated talks with the Bundesliga side over the possibility of signing the Dutch defender. Leverkusen will let the youngster leave if their valuation of €50 million is met.

The fullback had been rumoured to be Manchester United's summer target in recent months, and it will be interesting to see whether Arsenal can agree with Leverkusen and seal the deal.

Arsenal need to sign a right-back to challenge Ben White, and Frimpong, who has the qualities of a natural full-back, is seen as the right player to bring on board.

The 22-year-old has exceptional skills going forward, and this could give the Gunners' attacking dimension a new lease of creativity.

The Dutchman contributed 11 assists across all competitions last season and is seen as one of the finest fullbacks in Europe. With Mikel Arteta's ability to nurture talents, Frimpong can develop into a complete player under the Spaniard.

Arsenal are hoping to create a formidable team that can challenge on multiple fronts next season, and Frimpong's interest is therefore understood.

Kai Havertz has already joined, while Declan Rice and Jurrien Timber are understood to be on their way to North London ahead of the 2023/24 season.

Frimpong is expected to be a solid, long-term investment for the Gunners, who stumbled in the final stages of the Premier League last term.

Leverkusen and Arsenal have already done business this season with former Arsenal captain Granit Xhaka joining the Bundesliga side.
