Arsenal crashed out of the EFL Cup after West Ham showed superiority to keep the Gunners at bay at London Stadium.

The Gunners qualified to face West Ham after defeating Brentford 1-0 in the previous round of the tournament.

They were humbled by West Ham who defeated them 3-1 and got eliminated from the tournament.

An own goal from Ben White, Mohammed Kudus's goal and Jarrod Bowen's third goal sealed the quarter-final ticket for West Ham. Arsenal could only get a consolation goal in injury time from substitute Martin Odegaard.

As it happened

David Moyes made five changes to the West Ham team which lost at home to Everton in the Premier League on Sunday.

Lukasz Fabianski started in goal, while former Arsenal defender Konstantinos Mavropanos faced his old side.

Aaron Ramsdale made his first appearance since the win over Brentford in the third round on 27 September, as one of six changes to the Arsenal starting line-up.

Declan Rice was named on the bench for Arsenal in his first game back at West Ham since his £105m move in the summer.

The first half was well dominated by Arsenal but despite their possession, they fell behind against a well-organised West Ham side.

West Ham took the lead from a corner routine when Jarrod Bowen swung in the ball and Ben White nodded the ball past Aaron Ramsdale.

The home side defended well to keep Arsenal at bay and deprive them of creating chances as the first half came to an end.

The second half started and West Ham doubled their lead. Mohammed Kudus controlled a 50-yard diagonal ball by knocking it inside Oleksandr Zinchenko with his first touch and then steered the ball into the bottom corner.

The home side added the third goal shortly after when Ben White headed a cross out to Jarrod Bowen, whose half-volley from the edge of the box was deflected before beating Aaron Ramsdale into the back of the net.

Arsenal were only able to get a consolation in injury time after a quick one-two pass was exchanged between Odegaard and Viera before the Norwegian put the ball past Fanbisaki.

West Ham’s 3-1 victory over Arsenal means the Gunners are out of the EFL Cup and have only the FA Cup, Champions League and Premier League to compete in.
