AFC Leopards are planning to offer more support to their women’s team after its unblemished run earned them promotion to the second tier.

AFC Leopards chairman Dan Shikanda is keen to get the club’s women’s side secure an instant promotion to the Premier League.

Leopards adopted Makolanders as their women’s team last year to comply with CAF strict regulations and have helped the side earn promotion to the second tier Women’s Super League next season after finishing top of the FKF Women Division One Zone A League.

The club secured their promotion with an unbeaten record, managing 36 points, with their final match of the season being the Mashemeji derby with Gor Mahia’s Acakoro Ladies which ended 1-1 last weekend.

Ingwe now plan to provide a favourable environment for the side to thrive and secure a second straight promotion which would see them return to the top flight since their relegation in 2021.

“We are trying to bring someone else on board because we will be running three teams next season. We just want them to be comfortable,” said Shikanda.

“We have been footing their bills and we are planning to see how we can make it better based on the budget.

“Before, they had many off-pitch problems but we have tried to reduce them and we want to help them gain promotion to the top flight.”

Makolanders saw their 28-year stay in the Women’s Premier League come to a crushing end in June 2021 following a 3-0 loss to Kayole Starlets.

They had been bedeviled by financial challenges and struggled to honour matches before the partnership with Leopards offered them a new lease of life.
